Make Art - Donate to Cracked

Dear Friends and Family,

I am restaging CRACKED in May 2016.  This show is dear to my heart.  When it originally premiered in 2006, I was fearful of exposing my past to the world, but felt an urge to share it in hopes to help others.  CRACKED was my very real story of struggles with poor body image and self-abuse, and an exploration into why I made these choices.  I felt I was not alone, that all women deal with this struggle to some degree, and CRACKED was my way of bringing it out into the open; to connect with women on these issues. I succeeded.

Today, I am watching women’s value of themselves as a whole disintegrate right before my eyes.  Not loving ourselves and our bodies is culturally rooted in a message women receive at birth – that our bodies are collateral to be bargained, bought, or traded for what we need and want in our lives.

It is time to take CRACKED out of the closet again.

As you know, producing even a simple concert with a minimal cast requires more resources than I can pull out of my pocket (or closet or garage).  Therefore, I am required to ask friends and family for help.  I have a stellar supporting cast –veterans Teresa Chapman, Priscilla Nathan-Murphy, and Rebecca Valls, and newcomers Gabriela Luna, Tyler Scarberry, and Bianca Torre-Aponte.

I need to raise $3500 to pay my cast and crew. I am asking you to be a part of the restaging of CRACKED, that premieres May 19-21, 2016 at Quintero Theatre on the UH Central Campus.  No pressure, but if you would like to support CRACKED, you can make a donation online at the button above or send a check to 1043 Stonecrest Drive, Houston, TX 77018.

Or come see the show!  Tickets are on sale at http://www.6degreesdance.org/

Again, thanks so much for your love and support of my work.  I hope to see you in the audience in May – you are invited.  Let me tell you a story.

Sincerely,

Toni Leago Valle
